Color Palettes I'm Loving: Gray, Yellow & White

I was designing some business cards for a client last week and she drew my attention to this awesome color palette: Yellow, Gray and White.

Aren't they just so great together?  Check out these ideas for a wedding:

I am loving the sweet bee favors and the square cake is amazing! The flowers on top are so beautiful! The invitations are available in the shop.

This color combination would work well for a spring/summer wedding because of the bright yellow. But watch out fall wedding! The gray gives it a late summer/early fall elegance that would be really beautiful as well.

5 Minute Fridays: Five Years Ago

I was looking for some new blogging ideas and I came across the Tales from a Gypsy Mama . Lisa-Jo is a Mom-blogger who believes that "Motherhood should come with its own superhero cape." She also believes in the everyday extraordinary. Her blog really is a great read!

My favorite part of her blog is 5 Minute Fridays. Every Friday she has "5 Minute Friday" on her blog. She encourages other bloggers to write for 5 minutes from the topic that she posts and then link up their posts to her site. I love that idea! But since I'm getting to the train a little late (she's been doing this for over a year) and she has some pretty great topics I'd like to cover, I'm going to do the 5 Minute Friday a little differently. I'm going to creatively explore through her list of topics and use those as my inspiration for posts. I think this will be an awesome exercise to help me with my blog writer's block. It will also give me some consistency with my posting.

Todays topic: Five Years Ago
January 12, 2007 - Our Wedding Day!

Five years ago, we were newlyweds. We were so excited about the possibilities life had to offer.  Our eyes had barely begun opening to the life that would be ours. We were innocent to both the tragedy and miracles that would take place in our lives. This life that is so far from the one we imagined for ourselves. Yet so much better. So much more love. So much more hope. So much more understanding of God's timing in our lives. Five years ago we began our journey as partners in life and eternity.

Five years. I'm always amazed to think we are still traveling the road we began then - the one we never knew we would have to travel. With 3 miscarriages, we've certainly had our share of sorrow. But with 2 beautiful daughters, we've also had more than our share of joy.

We're grateful for life's challenges because they make us more refined. They help smooth out the rough edges of our character. They teach us to be charitable and compassionate. They teach us to cling to the faith in which we are guiding our children. They teach us to love each other and our God. These past five years have been good to us.

Free Fonts!

photo via

I remember back in the day when my parents still owned a typewriter just like the one in the photo. And "typewriter" was the only font available. In high school and college all my papers had to be 12 point Times New Roman font. As an adult and a stationery designer, I'm so glad there are now many more font options available!

Let's be honest, I am always looking for new fonts. Free fonts are even better. And free fonts that can be used for personal and commercial use = jackpot! Check out these free fonts from Kevin & Amanda. Amanda has created a "line" of fonts called Fonts for Peas. She collects handwritten writing samples and turns it into a digital font. It's seriously the coolest idea ever! Want your own font? Click here for details! Want to use these fun fonts on your blog or webpage? Get instructions here.

Happy writing typing!

Christmas in July Sale!

A few weekends ago we decided to go shopping. I had gotten a gift card and I wanted to spend it on my girls. I recently discovered the awesome children's section at H&M. So, we packed the kids in the car and drove 35 minutes to the nearest store.

Immediately my husband sees these adorable sundresses for the girls. They were so cute! We tried them on and they fit perfectly. Best of all, they were on sale for $9.99 each. Such a great deal! The dresses had some shimmery gold stitching running though and so we set out to find some gold ballet flats for the girls (also on sale!).

In the meantime, my oldest had picked out the accessories she wanted to match the outfit along with some other items. NONE of which I was planning to purchase. I didn't realize she had amassed quite the collection of items until we were about to go to the registers. Ugh. You can see where this is going. We tried to explain to C why we were not going to buy everything in the store. She freaks out. Yes, we were that family with that kid.

We've been watching old episodes of Super Nanny and have been trying to be better about sticking to the only one warning and then time out (or privilege removed) routine. I warn her, but she continues to freak out. All the items go back on the rack - including the cute dresses and shoes we spent so much time picking out. Boo. I was sad! It's not often that I enjoy shopping, but I was really excited to buy those outfits. But alas, consistency and follow through are important. We packed the kids back in the car and drove the 35 minutes back home. Epic shopping trip FAIL.

We got home and put the kids to bed. Later, I peek in to check on the girls and I hear C telling her baby dolls, "Maybe if I can be a better listening girl, and not have a tantrum, we can still ask Santa for my bracelets." Funniest moment of my night!

So, in honor of my sweet little C, we're offering a Christmas in July sale! We're offering, for a limited time only, 30% off all items in the shop! Check it out here!! Sale runs now through Thursday!

Happy Shopping!

July is National Ice Cream Month

photo via Elana's Pantry

My father is a lover of all things sweet, but especially ice cream. I remember growing up we always had ice cream in the house. We joke that we may not have had milk, but it was ok because we could always melt down the ice cream from the freezer! Have you ever had a scoop of ice cream over plain oatmeal? It delish! I definitely got my love of treats from my father.

Did you know July is national Ice Cream Month? Seriously! In July of 1984, President Ronald Reagan officially declared it so. (You can see the proclamation here!) So, in honor of this very special occasion, I have recipes!

> Make your own ice cream in a bag from Recipes We Love.
> Make Ice Cream cupcakes with a recipe from Couture Cupcakes.
> Make Banana Split Mini Bites with a recipe from Bakers Royale.
> Gluten Free Peach Almond Ice Cream from Elana's Pantry
> Check out this awesome Ice Cream Party Theme (with free printables!) from Eat Drink Chic

Happy Tuesday!

Blogging is a Work in Progress

photo via

I'm a DIY girl through and through. But, I am also a master at following good examples. No, I don't mean stealing. I have my own great ideas, but I just need a little guidance. Let's be honest, with this blog, I really have no clue what I'm doing most of the time! But I try to use my resources.

When I was thinking about doing a blog re-design, I knew I wanted my blog to be simple and elegant, but charming and unique. Not only did I want to update the design, but I wanted to update everything. The content, the style, the features, my posts and my photos. I needed tips about what to write about, what not to write about, layout tips, photography tips. I scoured examples of beautiful blogs with useful and creative information. That is when I found Little Pink Strawberries.

Little Pink Strawberries is written by Noor. She's a southern gal now living in Saudi Arabia with her family. Hers is a lifestyle blog that offers awesome insights into blog design elements for DIY-ers. She  has a section entitled "lovely topics" which offers 55 blog tips. Most of her tips have step by step instructions on how to install different widgets, elements, etc. to your blog. She is seriously awesome!

The Sits Girls is another awesome resource. I actually was introduced to this blog by Heather over at The Vintage Sheet Blog. We're on the same team over in Etsy-land and she featured one of my designs on her blog for Mother's Day and we exchanged a few emails. Knowing I was a new blogger she gave me a bit of advice about my header and gave me a link to some of their literature about blogging. I'm grateful to have such talented bloggers out there who are willing to help build up blogging newbies and share their awesome ideas and skills!

So basically, besides sharing with ya'll some of my resources, I just wanted to say, please excuse the mess over the next couple of months. We're a work in progress!

Happy Friday the 13th!

Background Blog Design

E Hernandez Designs blog background

I wish I knew Photoshop better! I'm sure that's funny to hear coming from a stationery designer, but I've always preferred Illustrator. It seems to just work better for what I want to do. But, I know there are a ton of awesome things Photoshop can do. But since I don't know it very well (I am actually currently taking a class online in Photoshop, though. Maybe after the class is over I'll be a pro?), I relied on my tried and true method for getting things done. I googled.

In my search, I ran across this amazing blogger named Amanda. Her blog, Kevin & Amanda is seriously this awesome collection of useful information. She has tips on blogging and scrapbooking, recipes, tutorials, photography, giveaways, and the list goes on an on of the amazing stuff she blogs about. I love her site.

I found this post about how to make a scrapbook blog background. Of course, my blog isn't a scrapbook blog, but the basic design ideas apply. I really just needed someone to show me what sizes I needed to make for the different elements and how to upload, adjust html codes, etc. If you're thinking about re-designing your blog and want to do it yourself, or if you just want a really cool blog with a plethora of good ideas, hop on over to her blog. You'll be glad you did!

Happy Wednesday!

Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-change!

Check out our new logo, shop and blog design! It's something I've been working on for a few months, and so I'm super proud that it's finally all come together. I did the design myself, so over the next week I'll be talking about the different elements and how I was able to do it. Let's just say I got A LOT of help from other bloggers and their fantastic tutorials on how to "pretty up" your blog.

The first things I had to come up with was a new design. My husband suggested, since our gift tags are one of our biggest sellers, and since we're in the party business, why not use a tag and do a design like a present? (He's pretty proud of that one!)

Then I hopped on over to one of my favorite places for freebies: Pugly Pixel . The amazing Miss Katrina has tons of free backgrounds and blog bling and she is so generous to offer it for free. Of course, if you want even more, you can become a member. Awesome! I used her honeycomb background for the blog design and I loved the color so much I decided to use that as the main color. Perfect! Check back next time to hear how I was able to create the background after I chose the theme.
