New Logo

I liked my logo, but felt it didn't adequately show what my business is about. We're a fun and charming little stationary company and I thought it was just too minimal and not charming at all. So, this weekend I set about creating a new logo. After several hours playing around with different graphics and styles, I did it! It was originally created in Illustrator and then exported as a JPEG. It is still minimal without being too plain. I think it is really cute & quaint. Tell us what you think!

"Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day"

Ever had "one of those days"? Nothing seems to go right, you're frustrated at everyone and everything, and you just need a way to relax? UGH. That's been my day. Usually I am a big fan of exercising to release the stress, but sometimes you just need a change. I think tonight I might take the family and go to Tutti Frutti. They opened a store here a few months ago and it is my favorite indulgence place. (My kids love saying the name over and over...) Nothing like frozen yogurt especially when they have sugar free options and dozens of toppings of your choice! So yummy! When I'm feeling bad (like today. Ha ha!) I get the flavor of the week, cheesecake and strawberry toppings with caramel sauce. When I'm trying to be good, I usually get the sugar free flavor and fresh fruit toppings. Not that we go there often, but when we do, I  make sure to savor every bite. What do you do to de-stress?

Fabulous (and easy!) Pillows

About a year ago a pillow from our couch went missing. It was driving me nuts that I couldn't seem to find it. So I went about getting the "ingredients" I needed to make some new pillows. Well, in the subsequent few weeks, my husband got laid off, we had to put all of our belongings in storage and stay with our in-laws for a few months.  (Don't worry, hubby got a new job within 4 months and we were happily in our own place again. We were VERY blessed).

So, to make a long story short, the pillows never got made. I found them in my closet the other day and decided to make them. And since they turned out so cute, I'm going to share!

Finished pillows

I used fabric sample squares (17 3/4"x 17 3/4") and a 16" x 16" polyester pillow form for the "stuffing".

Supplies

I sewed the front and back together with a 1/4" seam, only leaving one side open so I could put the "stuffing" inside.

Pillow with 3 sides sewed

After the "stuffing" was inside, I sewed the remaining edge using the 1/4 seam. You could also put a zipper in if you were using machine washable fabric. The samples I bought were not machine washable, so I just skipped that step.

The sample fabric squares were only $2 each at Joann's Fabric, and the "stuffing" was about $6 each. I already had the thread. So all in all, these pillows were only about $10 each and only took about 30 minutes to make. Talk about a steal!

Ah... weddings....

The past several nights I have been pouring over everything wedding-ish I can think of. Magazines, blogs, photography, you name it. I'm trying to get inspired. My own wedding was 5 years ago (last Thursday to be exact!) and while it was a beautiful affair if I do say so myself, there are so many things I would do differently if I was planning it today. I'd wear a veil, and wear my hair up.  I'd have a bridal party. I thought it would be too hard to decide who to choose.. I mean, I come from a family of 7 children and my hubby has a family of 6 children - not to mention all my close friends... I just didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. But, I digress.

Is there anything you would change? Or if you are not married yet, how do you envision your wedding? We'd love to hear!

Our wedding day! January 12, 2007. Check out our red noses. It was SO cold. In fact, we went on our honeymoon to San Diego, and it was the first time in about 40 years that it snowed!!

Valentine Card Bouquet

The other day I was trying to think of new and creative ways to use Valentine Cards. I was at the Dr.s office using one of those pens with the flowers on the end. You know the ones, when I had a great idea! Instead of using flowers, what if I used Valentine cards?

I used these printable Valentine's from my etsy shop here. They're super cute and affordable at only $2 for a re-printable download.

Anyway...

Here is the finished product.

I used cute Valentine themed pencils (instead of pens) and stapled the cards to the ends over the erasers. Put them in a mason jar with red and clear colored marbles, added a pretty ribbon and voila! I'm so proud of this! And, oh, think of the possibilities! You could do this for any holiday - Christmas, Halloween, St. Patrick's Day. The list goes on!

I'd love to see your re-creations of this craft. Email pics to me at ehernandezdesigns@gmail.com and I'll post my favs!

Heart Cookies

Yesterday afternoon I set about making some rolled sugar cookies with my girls. But the dough never set even after chilled for several hours. I've used that recipe dozens of times, so I'm not sure what I did wrong. Needless to say, my girls were really disappointed.  Then my awesome Hubby totally saved the day! He had the great idea to add white chocolate chips and craisins to the dough and then bake them in this adorable heart shaped muffin tin I bought years ago. They turned out so cute, and really yummy too! And that's why I married this guy. He always saves the day. We love him!

Cute flower clips

My 3 year old Charlotte has long beautiful curly hair. Most days she won't even let me comb it, but on the days she lets me, I love putting her curls up into a cute ponytail (she calls it a "piggie"), or pulling the front out of her eyes with a cute clip.

On Friday, my girls helped me finish a project I'd been working on - Valentine hair clips!

C is wearing it as a hair clip. A is wearing it as a headband. They both turned out so cute and we all had fun!

If you want this tutorial, follow me and make a comment with your email address, and I'll email the instructions.  Happy Crafting!

January Free Printable

Hey ya'll!

January is usually about new beginnings, new goals and resolutions. One of my resolutions EVERY year is to get organized. Well, January's printable will help you do that! It is a meal planning calendar! When my husband and I first got married we were having a hard time being on the same page about meals. We found that we both would go shopping and buy the same ingredients or if we didn't plan correctly, we would use an ingredient the other had planned to use. So, my sweet husband came up with this great idea! He created a re-writable dinner calendar magnet that hangs on our fridge. Now we plan our meals every 2 weeks. That way we always know what is for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It saves us $ by planning ahead and avoids the "Who used all the butter?" argument.

See the well-used and well-loved calendar a la my husband above. (Complete with my meal plans! Ha!)

To get this free printable, left click on the picture and choose "save image as". Save to your desktop and print! Printable is 8x10, so it will easily print on regular paper. Instructions to turn it into a re-writable magnet are included.

Happy Eating!
